ROUTE DESCRIPTION (Updated 7th August 2021)

Leave the Station Car Park opposite the public toilets and turn left towards the main road. Turn left and then immediately turn right on Mount Pleasant North road sign posted Cindertrack and Cleveland way, to reach gate, sign post Cleveland Way.Follow the road as it bends left following the Cleveland Way and Cinder Track diversion sign. At the next junction keep left then turn right in front of Locksley Cottage. When the path splits bear right signed Cleveland Way to Whitby. Go through gate and follow the cliff path with sea and bay on right to reach NYM National Park sign and information board, Rocket Post Field,

Q1- When the Captain of the Heathfield was rescued what was he carrying?

In the Rocket Post Field there is a post that was used to practice sea rescues. A rocket with a line attached was fired to a stranded ship and the survivors would climb the rope to safety. Continue to follow the cliff path for appx 4000m passing NT Bay Ness sign, white lookout station, Railway Path sign, and NT Bottom House Farm sign to reach caravan park on hillside. Turn left uphill inland signpost Hawsker and go through caravan park, at top turn right on road signpost Hawsker to reach caravan park reception on right, café on left

Q2- What is the name of the Holiday Park?

Leave caravan park and walk along the lane towards another caravan park and just before reaching it turn left onto disused railway track. Keep ahead and after appx 1800m you reach a NT sign on left.

Q3- What is the NT site on the sign?

Continue in same direction on railway track to reach houses, turn left on Cinder Track and in 30m turn right on Cleveland Way/Cinder Track onto Mount Pleasant North road and return to car park and end of walk.
